As a mother of a child with an attachment disorder, I have experienced firsthand the difficulties of advocating for adequate mental health treatment through the various agencies available to me. The resulting frustrations have given me a desire to assist other families in their search for proper treatment for their children. This desire fueled the creation of this non-profit organization that will advocate for children. We also help teens that are required to financially support themselves and new Mom's in need. We educate new Mom's on the importance on secure attachments and how to create them for their baby.
If your child has a mental illness and you need hlep parents sometimes have to wait 7 days for a bed to open up in a treatment facility. This is unacceptable and my desire is to see this improved as soon as possible.
Recently, a local Arizona hospital told me that I would have to provide 1:1 care for my child in the hospital until a bed became available at the psychiatric ward (which they admitted could be from 4-7 days). As I am a single parent with other responsibilities, I knew this was not going to work. Through my strong advocating for my child, we were able to get in the next day. As you can see, I have a passion for advocating.
I have helped other families in their search for an open bed in a psychiatric ward and also helped one adult get into a drug rehab facility. My effort to help families seek proper mental health treatment has not been limited to children, as I have also assisted adults get the proper help they needed.
My mission to assist other families started Christmas Eve 2012 as I applied for my nonprofit 501C3 status. The name of my non-profit organization is ‘Just One Fish, Family Advocacy Inc’.
I hope that you or a family member may benefit from my experiences. Become a member and help support and get support.
